Carborundum is an amazing "cosmic" stone that shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow and fascinates with its radiant shine. Strictly speaking, it's not even a mineral, but a compound of silicon and carbon; it is practically not found on Earth, and most specimens were created under laboratory conditions. A small amount of carborundum has been found in meteorite remains, and this material is quite common in space. Natural carborundum forms outside the solar system, near carbon-rich stellar giants, and will likely never be available to us.
